According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a fatal crash was reported in Edinburg. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred on Seminary Road. The driver of a blue Jeep Wrangler was speeding and swerving. She then lost control of the Jeep, oversteered a number of times, and struck a tree.
The driver rolled onto the passenger’s side. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Aleena Karissa Belmontes. Belmontes was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The crash continues to be investigated by the TDPS. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at the moment.
