On Sunday, 20-year-old Derrick Ceasar Jr. and 20-year-old Tywon Thorn, both from Crowley, lost their lives following a traffic collision in Acadia Parish.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place at about 7 p.m. on La. 35 near Pointe Noir Road. The early reports showed that Ceasar was heading south on the highway in a car, with Thorn as his passenger. At some point of time, he went over the center line and into the northbound lane.
On the other hand, an SUV with 11 occupants was going north. That driver pulled to the shoulder in order to avoid Ceasar’s car, but he still crashed into her SUV head-on. Ceasar and Thorn were not buckled up at the time of the accident. They suffered major injuries and were declared dead at the scene by the officials.
The female driver of the SUV was also not wearing a seat belt. She and several of her passengers were taken to an area hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Seat belt and child restraint usage on the part of the other ten passengers is unclear at this time. It is unknown if impairment played a factor in the accident but toxicology results are pending. No other details are available.
The crash remains under investigation.
