Tragedy struck on Monday around noon when a fatal three-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 31 East, just west of CR 246. The multi-vehicle accident involved an Isuzu truck driven by Cameron S. Reeves, 18, of Hawkins, with passenger Aidan R. Kelley, 20, of Chandler.
According to the DPS report, Reeves failed to stay in a single lane, colliding with an eastbound Ford F-150. A Toyota Tacoma travelling in the same direction swerved to avoid the fatal crash. The Isuzu and Toyota ended up striking trees in the southern ditch.
Reeves sustained non-incapacitating injuries while Kelley was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford driver, Robert T. Pierzchalski, 67, of Henderson, suffered minor injuries, and the Toyota occupant, Cory D. Threadgill, 40, and Brandon D. Carpenter, 42, both from Gladewater, sustained non-incapacitating injuries.
They were taken to a Tyler hospital for treatment.
