Police officers reported a multi-vehicle accident in Rockdale on December 23. The accident occurred around 10 p.m. near the 700 block of Hwy 79/Cameron Ave.

According to officials, 20-year-old Aaron Avila crossed into the turn lane and hit a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Fred Hanhart. Avila was critically injured, taken to the hospital and was subsequently pronounced dead. 

Hanhart and his passenger, Clayton Merka, 31, were both hospitalised. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
