The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle accident in Nolan County on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Highway 84 just before 5 p.m.
According to the officials, a vehicle occupied by two women was headed southeast on Business 84, driving towards an intersection at Highway 84. At the same time, another vehicle was driving on the highway toward the intersection which brought it into the path of the first vehicle. The two vehicles collided.
The two women present in the first vehicle were fatally injured and were pronounced dead at the scene. They have since been identified as 66-year-old Lisa Merxbauer and 65-year-old Robin Lawrence. The driver of the other vehicle incurred injuries and was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the fatal crash is being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
