On early Sunday, two women lost their lives and two others received critical injuries in a wrong-way crash on I-45.
The fatal incident took place at about 2 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway near Rayford Road. As per the reports, officers began receiving calls about a Honda that was southbound in the northbound lanes near Highway 242.
Shortly after searching, officers found a head-on collision just north of Rayford Road and one of the vehicles caught fire. The 25-year-old Honda driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities reported that a 22-year-old woman, who was pinned inside the pickup for about 20 minutes, also died of her injuries at the scene.
The driver and other passengers inside were also seriously injured as a result of the accident. Officers are still investigating why the Honda driver was traveling the wrong way and where she entered the freeway. The identities of the victims have not been revealed at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
