Authorities in Gardena are investigating two fatal collisions that occurred within hours of each other on Sunday. The first pedestrian accident, which took place around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, resulted in the death of a female pedestrian.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has yet to be disclosed. Preliminary investigations suggest a female driver struck the pedestrian while traveling south on Vermont, remaining at the scene until authorities arrived.
The second collision, a hit-and-run, claimed the life of 5-year-old Patrick Chacon, who was walking with his grandmother at Marine and Budlong avenues around 10:30 a.m. The boy died at the scene, while his grandmother’s condition remains unknown. The driver fled the fatal crash, leaving behind a community mourning two tragic losses.
