Early Monday morning, two Turlock residents lost their lives near Turlock Lake State Recreation Area in a tragic multi-vehicle accident. Leilani Romayor-Bettencourt, 23, and Danny Reyes, 28, both of Turlock, were identified as the deceased victims.
A 2017 Toyota sedan overturned, and they were ejected from the vehicle. The fatal crash occurred at 3:42 a.m. on Lake Road, just east of Roberts Ferry Road. Another passenger, Amber Sauls, 21, of Oakdale, sustained major injuries.
The driver, Isaac Urbeana, 23, of La Grange, was under the influence of alcohol, leading to his arrest for felony DUI and felony gross vehicular manslaughter. Both Sauls and Urbeana were wearing seat belts.
The fatal crash is still being investigated at this time.
