Tragedy struck early Saturday morning on Highway 4 near Antioch as a wrong-way crash claimed the lives of two individuals, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. The fatal crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. west of Lone Tree Way, according to a statement from CHP Contra Costa shared on social media.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle. Regrettably, both drivers involved in the crash succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The CHP confirmed that the drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic multi-vehicle accident.
