A tragic single-car crash claimed the lives of two individuals in north Phoenix along I-17 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Arizona DPS. The motor vehicle accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near New River Road, resulting in the closure of the southbound lanes.
The closure led to a ten-mile-long backup, as reported by ADOT. At the time of reporting, the identities of the victims had not been released. Thankfully, the northbound lanes remained unaffected by the crash.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash. There are no other details available at this time.
