The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Lakewood on Thursday morning. The accident occurred on Interstate 5 at around 5:30 a.m. The victims have been identified as well.
According to the officials, a single vehicle was involved in the collision. A commuter van was headed from Shelton to an area near Enumclaw. A rogue tire smashed through the windshield.
Two of the eight people present in the vehicle were fatally injured and were pronounced dead. The officials have since identified them to be 55-year-old Martin Mendoza Matias and 18-year-old Denilso Tomas Lopez.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
