A tragic hit-and-run crash in Glendale on Saturday night claimed the lives of two teenagers.
The incident unfolded when 20-year-old Dieudonne Ushindi collided with another driver near 48th Avenue and Glendale Avenue before 7:30 p.m.
He then fled the scene, speeding down Glendale Avenue and rear-ending a stopped car at 51st Avenue, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving three other drivers, according to police statements.
Eighteen-year-olds Tyler Hugon and Tess Collins, occupants of the rear-ended car, were rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries. Another driver was hospitalized and later released.
Ushindi attempted to evade authorities but was apprehended at his residence shortly afterward. He faces charges including leaving the scene of a deadly accident and endangerment, with the possibility of additional charges pending further investigation by detectives. Police are examining speed as a primary factor in the crashes while investigating any potential impairment issues.
