On Sunday night, a juvenile and a 40-year-old man sustained injuries after being struck by an SUV on I-40 in Mt. Juliet.
Several agencies actively responded to the area of Interstate 40 at mile marker 223 near the Davidson County line at about 8:30 p.m. on reports of a crash involving three vehicles. The preliminary reports showed that the driver of an SUV was going eastbound when she veered and hit a box trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder.
The SUV then rolled several times, struck a tree and caught fire. The driver fortunately remained uninjured in the wreck. Two people, a juvenile and a 40-year-old Mt. Juliet man, who were standing by the box truck, received injuries. On arrival, first responders found the juvenile unconscious on the side of the road.
Both the adult and juvenile were rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Reports further said that another car heading eastbound on the interstate struck debris. That driver was not harmed in the accident.
The wreck remains under active review.
