On early Thursday morning, 2 people were hospitalized after a car slammed into a power pole near W. Ajo Way and Mission Rd that led to a power outage and caused traffic delays.

The preliminary investigation showed that a car rammed into a power pole at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 14 for reasons that are yet to be known. All the occupants of the vehicle were transported to Banner UMC for treatment. One sustained life-threatening injuries, whereas the other was taken as a precaution.

Tucson Electric Power stated that the force of the collision left almost 1,200 customers without power. By switching a circuit breaker, the company managed to report the lights to some customers. However, as of 11 a.m., at least 30 customers were still without power. The reports further revealed that the crews will likely finish restoration efforts by 3 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains under review.
