On Thursday afternoon, a stretch of westbound I-94 in Kalamazoo was shut down for approximately two hours following a wreck that hospitalized two people.
The closure was due to an accident involving several vehicles. As per the initial information, the multi-vehicle accident took place at about 2:45 past mile marker 78 after the Sprinkle Road exit. The early reports showed that a semitrailer and a minivan crashed into each other for unknown reasons.
The impact of the crash pushed the minivan into the median, affecting a portion of eastbound I-94 in that area as well. Two people sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Their current condition is not known at this time. That section of I-94 reopened to traffic at about 4:45 p.m. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under investigation.
