The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Leavenworth on Wednesday morning. The collision involved two vehicles. A 2000 Honda CR-V driven by 55-year-old Elizabeth M Fortin was traveling east on Highway 2 at about 8:40 a.m. near milepost 99, just west of Leavenworth in Tumwater Canyon.
The car went sideways and crashed into an approaching 2013 Toyota Rav4 SUV. According to the State Patrol, Fortin lost control of her car and spun anticlockwise across the center line. The Wordens’ westbound Toyota struck the CR-V broadside.
S Kvenich, 79, and Maria A Valkovich, 75, perished in the collision. Fortin was hurt and taken to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee along with Leavenworth residents Roy M. “Mike” Worden, 68, and Lori E. Worden, 67.
Highway 2 at Tumwater was closed due to the fatal crash for just over two hours.
