The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle crash on Saturday. The collision involved only one vehicle. The accident happened on I-10 at milepost 318 at around 5:03 p.m.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved left into the median, which resulted in the car overturning and then coming to a rest on its roof in eastbound lanes.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Five people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The names and identities of the victims have not been made public yet.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the officials. The incident forced the interstate’s westbound and eastbound lanes to be shut down for more than an hour and three hours, respectively.
