Two people lost their lives Thursday morning after a wreck that led to the shutdown of eastbound Interstate 10, west of Beaumont for about six hours.
The early reports showed that at about 7:15 a.m., a 2017 Volkswagen passenger car heading west along Interstate 10, close to Boyt Road hit the median barrier and went into the eastbound lanes where it collided with a 2006 Ford pickup head-on. After the initial impact, the Ford pickup also hit an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet pickup.
Both the driver of the Volkswagen and the Ford pickup were declared deceased at the scene by the officials. On the other hand, no one in the Chevrolet pickup received injuries. The reports also indicated that the Ford pickup had caught fire and burned at the scene following the accident. The incident forced the closure of all eastbound lanes and one of the westbound lanes of the interstate, but just before 1 p.m. all lanes were opened to traffic. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under review.
