2 people died, 2 others hospitalized after a wrong-way accident on North Freeway (Houston, TX)

Two people were killed and two others received injuries following a wrong-way accident on I-45.

Authorities received a call just after 12:30 a.m. about a driver in a black Dodge Charger traveling the wrong way on the North Freeway just north of downtown. One minute after that call came in, HPD got reports of a three-vehicle wreck on the freeway.

The motorist who was heading in the wrong direction was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Another driver was also shifted to the hospital and is expected to survive. However, two people in another vehicle, including a man and a woman lost their lives in the accident.

The early reports indicated that the black Charger was possible the wrong-way vehicle which also matched the description of one of the cars at the crash scene. The freeway was closed down for hours during investigation and cleanup, but has since reopened. No other details are available.

The wreck remains under active review.
