Two people lost their lives following a wrong-way collision Sunday on I-80 near Carquinez Bridge.
As per the initial information, the fatal three-car wreck took place at around 3:40 a.m. Sunday near the Carquinez Bridge in Crockett. The incident caused the freeway to be closed down for four hours. The early reports showed that a driver in a Honda SUV was going the wrong way allegedly into eastbound lanes, when their car crashed head on into a Tesla.
After some moments, a Toyota Camry heading eastbound slammed into the crashed vehicles. The Honda and Tesla became fully engulfed in flames due to the collision. The drivers of both the Honda and Tesla received major injuries and were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota incurred only minor injuries.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. The eastbound Interstate 80 was later opened to traffic. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under review.
