2 people dead after a DUI crash in Kennewick; 28-year-old Mariana Souza arrested (Kennewick, WA)

On Sunday night, two people lost their lives following a DUI crash in Kennewick while officers arrested 28-year-old Mariana Souza for driving under the influence.

As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the intersection of West Gage Boulevard and North Steptoe Street at around 11:18 p.m. after getting reports of a two-vehicle collision. On arrival, responders found two people dead in one of the involved vehicles. According to the authorities, Souza, the driver of the second vehicle was drunk at the time of the accident.

Souza informed the officers that she was on her way home from a bar in Richland. She further said that she was driving approximately 50 miles per hour when the light turned red at the intersection. She did not have time to stop her car and crashed into the other vehicle. Officers arrested her on suspicion of two counts of vehicular homicide. Her case is pushed until Tuesday to provide a Portuguese translator. No other details are made available.

An investigation continues.
