On Wednesday morning, a multi-vehicle pile-up took the lives of two people and injured another in west Olympia.
As per the initial information, the fatal wreck took place just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Cooper Point Road and Capital Mall Drive in which four vehicles were involved. Reports revealed that two people died of their injuries at the crash scene. On arrival, medics rushed a third victim to an area hospital in critical condition.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, it is still unclear whether those three victims were drivers or passengers of their vehicles or if there were any other injuries. Officials blocked traffic around the intersection of Cooper Point Road and Capital Mall Drive as crews worked at the scene.
Officers issued a traffic alert at 10:14 a.m. on social media a little after the accident and asked the residents to adopt alternate routes. According to the officials, the intersection is heavily traveled as it is close to Capital Mall and MultiCare Capital Medical Center. An 11:40 a.m. update showed that traffic was moving in both directors on Cooper Point Road whereas westbound traffic on Capital Mall Drive remained shut down.
An investigation continues.
