The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Sunnyside. The accident happened east of Sunnyside on Interstate 82.
A wrong-way driver who was traveling in the eastbound lanes in the westbound direction caused the collision, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson.
A 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl from Grandview passed away at the scene. The driver and a 5-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital. According to the WSP, the wrong-way driver, a 20-year-old Springfield, Missouri, man, was taken to Harborview Medical Center after the collision. The identities of the victims have not been reported at this time.
The fatal collision is being investigated by the officials. Additional information regarding the crash is not available currently.
