A tragic head-on collision in Laveen claimed the life of a 19-year-old and left another person injured on Friday evening. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that the crash occurred just after 8 p.m. near Loop 202 and Broadway Road.
Authorities revealed that 19-year-old Christian Rodriguez collided head-on with another vehicle while attempting to pass in a construction zone. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Rodriguez later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
Deputies are investigating whether speed, alcohol, or distraction contributed to the fatal crash, with MCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Unit taking over the investigation. The area remained closed throughout the night but reopened around 3 a.m. on Saturday. The multi-vehicle accident is still being investigated at this time.
