Authorities identified 19-year-old Avery Natal, from Slidell, as the woman who lost her life following a two-vehicle collision in St. Tammany Parish.
The fatal car crash was reported a little after 11:20 a.m. on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. According to the investigation reports, Natal was eastbound in the left lane on Interstate 12 in a 2020 Hyundai Elantra while a 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer was eastbound in the right lane on Interstate 12.
At some point of time, the Hyundai went into the right lane and rear-ended the Freightliner’s trailer. After hitting the Freightliner, the Hyundai drifted off the roadway to the right and into the tree line. Natal suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. She was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Freightliner was buckled up and remained unharmed in the accident. Impairment is not believed to be involved in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under review.
