A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Tuesday evening on Highway 132, west of Zazamora Street, claiming the life of a 17-year-old girl from Sonora. The solo vehicle crash occurred at 7:15 p.m.
A 2008 Subaru Outback, driven by 20-year-old Sebastian Pendergast of La Grange, failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway due to alleged high speed. The Subaru crashed into a tree. The passenger, identified as Lydia Koelzow, was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pendergast sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the motor vehicle accident. The details surrounding this fatal crash are still under investigation.
