16-year-old killed and 12-year-old injured after intoxicated driver crashes into apartment in Pharr (Pharr, TX)

On early Monday morning, a drunk driver ran into an apartment, killing a 16-year-old teen and injuring a 12-year-old teen in Pharr.

Officers actively responded to a call about the crash at about 3:30 a.m. On arrival, officials identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jesus Cruz. Reports revealed that Cruz was driving a black Chevy Equinox and crashed into an apartment near the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and West Third Street.

According to authorities, Cruz was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding down North Veterans Boulev when he slammed his car into the apartment. He struck two teens, a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old. Medics rushed both the victims to a local hospital.

Police mentioned that the 12-year-old had non-critical injuries while the 16-year-old later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Cruz will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
