15-year-old Laura Beth Childress killed after an ATV crash in Jefferson County (Jefferson County, TN)

Authorities identified 15-year-old Laura Beth Childress as the teen who lost her life following an ATV crash on Wednesday in Jefferson County.

The fatal single-vehicle accident took place in an open field. According to the investigation reports, Childress was a passenger on an ATV being driven by her uncle in an open field. As he was slowing down, the ATV accelerated, causing him to veer to miss a parked cattle trailer.

Childress was ejected from the ATV and she struck the trailer. On arrival, emergency crews provided medical aid to the girl and airlifted her to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by Lifestar. The teen reportedly succumbed to her injuries early Friday morning, officials reported. No charges are expected to be filed at this time.

The crash remains under review.
