Tragedy struck on Thursday morning near Munds Park as a teen boy lost his life in a crash on Interstate 17. The multi-vehicle accident unfolded just before noon when a sedan driver, heading south on the Arizona Veterans Freeway, hydroplaned about two miles northwest of the community.
Due to excessive water, the driver lost control, resulting in a collision with a second vehicle.
A 13-year-old boy seated in the left passenger seat of the second car was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time.
The sedan driver emerged unharmed, while the second car’s driver and another passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.
Investigators report no impairment, and seat belts were in use.
Authorities are investigating the tragic fatal crash.
