The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reported a motor vehicle accident in Cottonwood on Thursday. The accident occurred on Western Drive and the time of the fatal accident is not known.

According to the officials, a woman had placed her 13-month-old baby on the ground so that she could reposition her vehicle. The child was in a car seat at the time. Unfortunately, the front tire of the vehicle caught the car seat’s canopy.

This caused the seat to fall backwards and into the path of the car. The vehicle then ran over the child. The mother called the authorities immediately.

Officials reported that the child was critically injured and rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the injuries were too great and the child was pronounced dead.

The fatal crash is still being investigated.
