According to the Santa Clara Police Department, a fatal crash was reported on Wednesday afternoon. Officials confirmed that two people died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred northbound on San Tomas Expressway, towards Forbes Avenue. A 2021 Tesla Model Y struck a tree.
The occupants of the vehicle, a 44-year-old mother, and her 12-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. Insights including the identity of the victim are yet to be released.
Whether the collision was a result of Tesla’s self-driving capabilities or not is yet to be confirmed. The crash continues to be investigated by the SCPD.
