10-year-old dead, 3 teens injured following a fiery crash in Detroit (Detroit, MI)

On early Saturday morning, a 10-year-old died while three teens suffered injuries after a single-vehicle accident on Detroit’s east side.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place just after midnight on East Canfield Street, between Chene Street and St. Aubin Street. The early reports showed that officers attempted to stop an SUV for erratic driving, but they called off the chase out of concern for public safety.

Shortly after, the SUV was found wrapped around a tree. The car had reportedly caught on fire due to the crash. Responders removed multiple people from the vehicle. A 10-year-old succumbed to their injuries at the scene. According to the authorities, a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy are in stable condition, but a 16-year-old girl is in critical condition. Speed might have contributed to the collision. No other details are available.

The crash remains under investigation.
