10-year-old boy dead, 33-year-old Solyta Watson and 3 children injured after a crash in Central Texas (Jewett, TX)

Authorities identified 33-year-old Solyta Watson, from Marques, Texas, as the woman who suffered serious injuries following a traffic collision that took the life of a 10-year-old boy and injured three children on June 6 in Central Texas.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle wreck took place at around 12:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 79, approximately a mile south of Jewett in Leon County. The early reports showed that a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, being driven by 33-year-old Solyta Watson, was heading southbound when it slammed into a 2016 Peterbilt Truck Tractor pulling a semi-trailer.

According to the authorities, the driver of the tractor-trailer, 30-year-old Corey Howard, of Richmond, failed to yield the right of way to the pickup. Howard remained unharmed in the accident. On arrival, emergency crews airlifted Solyta Watson to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan with serious injuries. There were four children traveling in the Dodge pickup with Watson.

A 10-year-old boy suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. An 11-year-old and an 8-year-old girl were flown to Dallas Children’s Hospital through medical helicopter with serious injuries. A 7-year-old boy was also airlifted to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan by medical helicopter in serious condition. No other details are immediately available.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
