A 1-year-old girl lost her life and a 2-year-old child was left in serious condition after the vehicle they were in was hit by an 18-wheeler last week on Interstate 20 in Canton.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place on I-20. The preliminary reports showed that both children were passengers in a 2018 Ford Escape, driven by 22-year-old Chassity N Gantt, of San Francisco, when a 2019 Kenworth and towed semi-trailer, driven by 55-year-old Robert C Stanley, of Giddings, failed to slow in time and hit the rear of the Ford while both vehicles were heading westbound on I-20.
The 2-year-old in the Ford is at Cook Children’s Hospital – Dallas in serious condition. The 1-year-old was rushed to Cook Children’s Hospital – Dallas as well, where she was declared dead Jan. 14. Gantt was treated and released at the scene, while another passenger 22-year-old Katanni C Senegal, of Fresno, Calif., was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler with non-incapacitating injuries. No other information is available.
An investigation is ongoing.
