The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a teenage boy.
According to the authorities, a two-vehicle crash that involved a semi-truck was reported at the West Atoka Road intersection on U. S. 285, south of Artesia.
According to investigators, a Dodge SUV was traveling south on U.S. 285. The 19-year-old SUV driver attempted to turn onto Atoka Road, which put him in the path of a semi-truck traveling north on U.S. 285 at the time.
A semi-truck struck the SUV’s passenger side, injuring a 15-year-old who later died.
The 19-year-old was airlifted to a trauma center.
Officials confirmed that the 15-year-old was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
It is unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The crash is under review.
