The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle crash in east Petaluma that killed a person after being struck by a van.
At around 7:00 p.m., a huge Freightliner box van, travelling east, swerved off the road into westbound lanes and hit three passenger vehicles. A woman from one of the vehicles who was driving a 2018 Jeep Patriot was immediately rushed to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The van driver without stopping, drove into the approaching traffic and crashed into the side of a 2016 Lexus IS200. The van rammed head-on into a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and then struck a jeep. The driver of the Chevrolet was killed after enduring severe injuries.
The victim is not yet identified. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated.
