The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office reported a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday. The officials confirmed that one person died in the accident. According to the officials, the deceased victim was not identified.
Around 5:45 a.m., the crash happened near Mile Post 47, about three miles from the highway’s junction with Potash Mines Road. The vehicle was heading east toward Hobbs when it entered the median. When it attempted to return to the roadway, the vehicle turned clockwise.
This caused it to cross both eastbound lanes then overturn and roll until coming to a stop upright. The driver was ejected during the rollover and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The events leading to the collision are not yet known. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
