One person was hospitalized after a crash early Wednesday in Sahuarita.

As per the initial information, the traffic collision involving a tractor-trailer took place on I-19 just before 3:45 a.m. According to the authorities, the wreck happened at kilometer marker 75. The driver was reportedly pinned inside the cab of the tractor-trailer, which was leaking hazardous chemicals. The driver was freed from the vehicle and airlifted to a hospital in Tucson with serious injuries.

An unnamed special response unit cleaned up the spill, which was identified by DPS as “an environmentally solid hazard waste.” The highway was shut down in both directions with the southbound closure at Pima Mine Road and the northbound closure at Sahuarita Road.
