One person suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning in Goodyear.
As per the initial information, the hit-and-run accident took place on I-10 westbound just past Dysart Road. The early reports showed that the male driver of a black pickup truck failed to maintain control of his vehicle and drove across multiple lanes before coming to a stop within two lanes.
A witness stopped to help drag the pickup truck out of the roadway when a gray car slammed into the rear corner of the truck. Due to the impact, the driver of the pickup truck was ejected from the vehicle. After that, the truck rammed into the median and got engulfed in flames.
On arrival, emergency responders rushed the driver of the pickup truck to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On the other hand, the driver of the gray car fled the scene after the accident. The hit-and-run driver was described as a Hispanic male in his thirties wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers.
Westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were shut down at Dysart while crews worked at the scene. The highway has since reopened, officials reported. Criminal charges are pending against the suspect for leaving the scene. The identity of the injured victim has not been revealed. No other details are immediately available.
The incident remains under active review.
