Tragic news unfolded early Saturday as a pedestrian lost their life in a crash, prompting the closure of roadways, according to first responders. The incident occurred in the 4900 block of North I-35, leading to the initial closure of all lanes of northbound I-35 near 51st Street.

The Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert, notifying drivers of the closure, but by 8:22 a.m., the Austin Police Department confirmed the reopening of the roadway. Austin Police and Austin-Travis County EMS swiftly responded to the scene.

Northbound traffic was diverted south of Barbara Jordan Boulevard, with drivers advised to anticipate delays. ATCEMS reported the tragic outcome, with medics pronouncing an adult deceased at the scene. The status of the driver involved in the collision remains unknown at this time, as investigations into the fatal crash continue.
