A tragic fatal crash in Laveen claimed the life of a woman Sunday morning after she crashed her 3-wheel motorcycle into a wall. Emergency responders arrived at a neighborhood near 35th Avenue and Dobbins Road around 8:45 a.m.
They found the motorcycle, which had collided with a wall, and 53-year-old Kristy Gatrel was lying nearby. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Gatrel succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Investigators determined Gatrel lost control of the motorcycle due to speed, exacerbated by her lack of a helmet.
The motor vehicle accident is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
