The California Highway Patrol reported a pedestrian accident in the Highway 58 area on early Christmas Eve. The accident occurred on westbound Highway 58 near Tehachapi Boulevard at around 1:13 a.m.
According to the officials, a pedestrian and a vehicle were involved in a collision. The 61-year-old California City man was standing within the roadway limits when he was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene before the police could arrive.
It was reported that the driver of the truck, a 23-year-old Fresno man, was unable to take evasive actions to avoid a crash. Unfortunately, the crash proved fatal, and the 61-year-old was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
