During a Friday night police chase in San Antonio, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a patrol car, according to authorities. The pedestrian accident began when two suspects in dark hoodies stole a woman’s vehicle and purse at gunpoint downtown.
Police tracked the vehicle via GPS, initiating a chase that initially eluded them. The car was later found, leading to another pursuit. In the process, a patrol car struck a pedestrian on the East Side.
The victim was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time. The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Rene Camarillo, fled on foot, was captured, and now faces charges including murder for causing the fatal crash that resulted in the pedestrian’s death.
The officer involved will be placed on administrative duty during the ongoing investigation.
