A tragedy struck early Monday morning on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Montebello as a pedestrian was fatally struck by at least one vehicle. The California Highway Patrol received reports of the pedestrian accident at 12:40 a.m. on the eastbound Pomona Freeway at Paramount Boulevard.
Witnesses informed the CHP that a white SUV had overturned prior to the pedestrian being struck. The pedestrian was found fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. In response, the CHP issued a SigAlert, closing all eastbound lanes of the Pomona Freeway in the vicinity for investigation and clearance of the fatal crash scene.
Authorities are working to unravel the details surrounding this fatal incident. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
