A fatal crash on Loop 202 in Tempe resulted in one person dead and four others hospitalized early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Arizona State Route 202, Red Mountain Freeway, between Center Parkway and Priest Drive.
According to Department of Public Safety officials, a Dodge Avenger struck the median wall and halted in the HOV lane, leading to a collision with a White Ford Escape. The Avenger driver was ejected onto the roadway and fatally hit by multiple vehicles.
Four individuals were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Arizona DPS is investigating the cause, and lanes have since reopened. The identity of the deceased hasn’t been disclosed.
