1 Person Killed In A Multi-Vehicle Crash In Oakland (Oakland, CA)

A tragic wrong-way crash during a police chase on Interstate 580 in Oakland resulted in one person dead and three others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The collision involving three vehicles occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the westbound I-580 connector to I-80.

The incident followed a police pursuit of burglary suspects from El Cerrito. El Cerrito police were pursuing the suspect vehicle on westbound I-80, but the chase took a fatal turn when the suspect vehicle turned around and drove the wrong way up the connector ramp, leading to a head-on collision with other vehicles.

The driver of a grey BMW sedan was killed in the crash. The suspect vehicle occupants and the solo occupant of a white van suffered major injuries. The CHP issued a Sig-alert, causing lane closures until around 8 a.m., when all lanes reopened.
