A tragedy struck in Monroe County on Sunday night as one person lost their life and a child was hospitalized following a collision. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Old Cabiness Road and Highway 83.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Anna Watkins confirmed that the crash involved a maroon Acura MDX and a tractor-trailer truck. The driver of the Acura, Jeffery Mathis from Dooly County, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 9-year-old passenger in the Acura was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, while the tractor-trailer driver was transported to a Macon hospital. The officials are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
