A fatal crash on Loop 202 in Tempe claimed the life of a man and left a woman hospitalized. The collision occurred on the westbound lanes of the Red Mountain Freeway, west of McClintock Drive, around 2:15 p.m.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a sedan experienced a tire blowout and attempted to avoid a motorcycle but failed. The motorcycle’s male driver and his female passenger were ejected into the eastbound lanes.

The man was critically injured and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead. The identity of the man has not been disclosed at this time. The woman sustained non-serious injuries.

The sedan’s driver remained at the scene. Eastbound and westbound lanes were affected by the multi-vehicle accident.
