A fatal crash south of Spanaway resulted in the closure of both directions of State Route 7, also known as the Mountain Highway. The collision involving two cars occurred at Weiler Road, prompting the closure between 304th Street and 260th Street.
The Washington State Department of Transportation first announced the closure at 7 a.m. on Thursday. Unfortunately, one person lost their life in the crash, and it is yet to be determined if anyone else was injured. The events leading up to the crash are not entirely clear at this time.
After several hours of closure, the highway reopened around 10:30 a.m. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal multi-vehicle accident. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
