In a tragic predawn freeway collision in South Bay, a motorist lost their life, and a DUI suspect was arrested. The fatal crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 5 in National City
The collision involved multiple vehicles, including a Nissan Frontier, a Honda Accord, and a Jeep Liberty. The driver of the Frontier fled the scene, while another Jeep Patriot later collided with the disabled Accord.
This caused the female driver to be thrown onto the roadway. She was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased victim is not yet known at this time.
The 37-year-old male driver of the Patriot, an Imperial Beach resident, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after being transported to the hospital. The multi-vehicle accident led to freeway lane closures for approximately three hours.
